Schenectady, NY
After a significant sprinkler main break flooded the main auditorium at Union, Envision collaborated with several campus constituents to design a complete renovation of the space. A multi-use space, the auditorium serves as an academic classroom, a large group meeting space, a movie theater and a social gathering hub for students, faculty and staff. Careful attention was paid to acoustic design to resolve sound issues which had previous existed in the auditorium. Accessibility was elevated as a priority, with the addition of a small lift inside to allow for universal access to the space.
Backing up to Jackson’s Garden, the team was inspired by the notion of storytelling and nature, bringing in design elements to represent trees, fire and other natural elements. The renovation of the Reamer Auditorium has provided Union with a vibrant new gathering space in the Campus Center, which is a hub of campus activity.
